Heres a noob question. How does that fire not burn down the forest? There's grass and leaves all around it. Wouldn't you want bare dirt for safety? Or is there something I'm missing here.

Hmmm I'll have to try this type of fire sometime. I can see making a solid wall of logs on the windward side to keep that fire behaving like a right proper fire should.

If you make the roof thicker, this fire can be used in the rain. The top logs will block rain, and the side logs will be dried by the flames.

Ouch!! how's your thumb?? You melted the end of your glove completely off! Do those gloves melt like paracord?? You can see after you hold the lit birch bark in your hand you can see you hastley shove it into the cabin, then it cuts and you can just see the end of your glove all melted off on your thumb, hidden behind the log. And you don't use that hand for the rest of the video. Bet it hurt.

Why I'd the camping/survival part of YouTube not so good. I mean this guy is good but most of the others look like they're filming from a potato for an ad in the 1980's

Making an efficient fire can have great benefits! I remember way back then when I didn't really know how to make a fire, other than using some matches and gasoline! Now I can easily make a good fire lay and start a fire with some fat wood feather sticks and some tinder and kindling. Knowledge is power! Great video, love the sense of humor.

Another tip is to collect as many stones / rocks and position them around the fire and they will heat up… The Stones will still give heat even when the fire goes out….
    Great videos man.
